The Team

Rich Tracey

Born solo to the world in 1979, Rich has always been interested in gadgets and gizmos all his life, his love affair with computers started back when he was 6 when he spent most of his time at primary school at that time fiddling with a BBC Micro (model B) dreaming of having a BBC Micro.

He then ended up borrowing a Sinclair ZX81, then eventually got a ZX Spectrum +2. He never owned a BBC Micro despite having that dream since the age of 6.

In 1990 he owned a computer called the SAM Coupe (a little known computer sharing some history with the Spectrum), it was a bit of a failed platform. He then progressed in 1993 to owning his first PC, a 486SX/25 with Windows 3.11 for Workgroups which he upgraded to a 486DX2/66. He tested the water with several operting systems including NT 3.51 and the doomed OS/2 Warp. He then settled on Windows 95.

He has worked in the industry since around 1995 where he used to work for a large corporate computing firm in Chelmsford, but then broke away to be part of running an independant computer company.

Fast forward and Rich uses a hyperthreaded quad core laptop with 8gb of RAM and Blu-Ray and Windows 7 Ultimate, and he LOVES the Blackberry range. As well as all this, he manages to be an award-winning local hero radio DJ doing far too many hours of radio a week.

James has always been into his gadgets from an early age with digital watches, then onto Gaming consoles as a teenager and now his speciality is his phones. With James’ superior knowledge of the mobile communictions sector, you would think he has a favourite phone. And he does, but its a split between the Android OS and Blackberry devices.

Simon Powell

Born in 1973 (the year to plant a tree – apparently), Si has grown up with technology from the classic Grandstand ‘Astro Wars’ unit, Atari 2600 all the way through to the PS3 and Wii.

Si has over 15 years experience in the IT sector. He has a vast amount of knowledge in the web and internet areas.

Si loves a good tweet and will often not go through a day without tweeting at least half a dozen times or more. He has recently started using the geo-location based tool FourSquare. A tool that rewards regular users with real world prizes. By becoming a Mayor of a local Pizza  joint through FourSquare, he’s aiming to gain the privilege of a Free pizza every Wednesday.

As an Apple fan-boy, owning an iMac, iPhone and most recently a iPad he believes the Apple products are a dream to use and would love to encourage more people to adopt them. Simply and to coin a phrase, “because they work”. However, he has time for Windows 7 which he believes is putting Microsoft back on the right track.

Dan Keen

Dan has been involved with Saint FM since 2001, presenting bright and breezy breakfast shows over the Christmas periods.

Despite the early morning’s he rather enjoyed it. He has been heavily involved with Saint FM and became a Technician in December ’07, he also joined the board of directors in September ’08.

He also finds time to present The Switchover on Fridays at 7.00pm. Away from Saint FM, Dan works as a youth worker at a local youth club, gives up his social life to work in a bar at the weekends and has also been known to do the odd mobile disco here and there as well.

Alongside that, Dan likes ’socialising’ in bars and clubs around Essex. Dan is currently taking a year out from studying, and will be enrolling to Kingston University to do a course in Media Technology from September ’09.

Chip Chipper

The DJ of the 80′s. Chip was renowned the world over for his mullet. Chip is proud of his mullet even now in the 2000′s. Although slightly thinning, his talent with a can of hair spray allows him to style the mullet in any fashion he chooses, although he’s not exactly fire proof.

Chip, sense of style and fashion has kept him in the limelight and he can still persuade the doormen at Tots 2000 to let him in. Is Tots 2000 still open?

Chip has long admired Mr T for his acting skills and Sylvester Stallone for his home baking and cooking abilities.

“Sly makes killer upside down cake”, says Chip.

Gadget Grandad

Born a long, long  time ago, Gadget Grandad (or GG as he is known to friends) has been using technology since the Romans. If it was invented, then he’s used it and he has an opinion on it.

The SodaStream, originally invented in 1903 is GG’s favorite bit of tech. A design classic in the 70′s and 80′s although GG has been getting his daily dose of SodaStream since it’s inception.

“For much of a decade people of all ages had terrible gas as an aftereffect of this classic bit of gadge making. I however, have always suffered from bad gas. And the guys in the studio can vouch for me “, Says GG

GG is married to Mrs Gadget. His long suffering wife and really the only female that puts up with him.

Wayne Shilliams

Born in 1990 on the wrong side of the tracks, (why he was born near tracks is anyone’s guess)

Wayne is the youngest member of The Technology Show team and he is responsible for the five minute product reviews on the show,  His quick wit but slow uptake are a a perfect blend when it comes to talking to the guys about current affairs but his age gives a unique insight into new products and a love of microwaved food.

To call Wayne shallow would be a dramatic understatement, it is rumored that he actually changed his name because he was “seen” shopping in a store without a designer name above the door!
